At Vivid Tempo Studio, we had the privilege of collaborating with Zavon Braggs on a remake of his soulful track Hey Man. This project was about breathing new life into an already powerful song, preserving its original essence while enhancing it with professional production and fresh creative touches.
The journey began with Zavon’s heartfelt demo, recorded on a digital 8-track. Our goal was to elevate the recording to a fully realized production that honored Zavon’s vision. We started by refining the arrangement and shortening the intro to bring listeners straight into the core of the song. This change gave the track a more immediate impact, ensuring it connected right from the first note.
To capture the Southern soul flavor Zavon envisioned, we incorporated live drums, guitars, and organ. These elements added warmth, depth, and authenticity, reflecting Zavon’s roots and the country influences he wanted to highlight. The bassline was crafted to be felt as much as heard, anchoring the song with a rich, rhythmic groove.
Vocally, we focused on dynamic progression throughout the song. The first chorus begins with strong unison voices, and as the track builds, harmonies are layered in to create a lift that amplifies the song’s message. Key phrases, like “hands in the air,” were given extra emphasis with soulful background vocals, adding layers of emotion and energy.
This remake of Hey Man illustrates the Vivid Tempo Studio approach: transforming meaningful songs into polished, professional productions while staying true to the artist’s original intent. Zavon’s vision, combined with our collaborative process, resulted in a track that feels both familiar and refreshingly new.
